At TrustEd we appreciate the contribution that our valued teaching assistants make. We know that without them there are many pupils who would miss out on vital support, for example, to meet their learning, social, emotional and physical special educational needs.
We welcome newly qualified teaching assistants who have completed college-based courses, but we are also open to appointing people with relevant experience who are willing to train once they have taken up a post and across our schools, we are able to share success stories of where this has happened.
Our trust has a positive track record of supporting teaching assistants to gain QTS through an assessment only training route. This applies to graduates who can show that they have worked successfully as unqualified teachers over a sustained period, not less than one year.
The trust SEND officer provides or facilitates a range of training opportunities for teaching assistants. For example, training on adaptation, supporting pupils with autism in the mainstream classroom, writing and reviewing pupil passports, supporting children who are looked after and the Talk for Work programme to support Y9 pupils with speech and language difficulties.
